The Laments

The Laments is a novel about a family, a family that is always on the move. It is a hard life they live always trying to fit in. Living crisis to crisis, just trying to live there life. I don’t know it’s really hard book to describe. I felt it was a very touching book, not as funny as a lot of people were claiming but amusing at points. The life of Will Lament and his family is a sad one but with everything they face they come together. As I said in my last post if you occasionally like a well written novel then it is well worth it considering you can get on amazon for 2 cents plus shipping. I would give it a 9 out of 10. It may start off slow but by the end of the novel you feel attached to the characters and only want the best for them.

Video Games, Novels and Rants

Lets get the video games and rants out of the way first. First Halo 3, my first though upon playing the game was it’s Halo. Which is great if you love Halo, but if you don’t your going to end up considering it an average sci-fi first person shooter. Secondly Gamestop order service claims that they shipped my copy of GTA4, woot. But they don’t have a tracking number which they say they don’t have because they outsourced the shipment to another company. Not sure if I believe them but if GTA4 shows up at my door tomorrow I will be ecstatic. My other worry about it not shipping is that my credit card hasn’t been charged, or gamestop also hasn’t sent out it’s usual your game shipped email. If you couldn’t tell I really want to play GTA4. Anyway on to the “The Laments” a novel about a family. I was going to write a review of it, but on second thought I don’t think I’ve digested it nearly enough. I will say that it is a very touching novel, that has its moments of silliness. I would recommend to anyone who likes to read a well written book every once and awhile.

John Adams Part 7: Peacefield

With former President Adams term over he has only time on his hands. Time to farm and to be a nag to his family. But life is never easy for Mr. Adams and his family. His daughter has breast cancer, which the family doctor removes. But later on comes back and takes her life, just as her husbands luck was changing. Lost and unsure of what to do Mr. Adams takes his wife advice and starts to write his memoirs. But on the verge of Mr. and Mrs. Adams 54th anniversary Mrs. Adams passes away. Mr. Adams with no where else to turn to, decides to begin writing to Mr. Jefferson with his concerns about how they will be remembered. The two continue there letters to one another until Mr. Adams and Mr. Jefferson’s death on July 4th 1826. It is an interesting end for the first 50 years of American history one wrought with internal fighting and power struggles. I personally felt that the show slipped a little bit, it was paced well enough but it didn’t feel like it kept my interest. I’d give it a 7 out of 10.

Call of Duty 4

One of the more interesting games to come out last year was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It takes the age old mechanics from the WW2 versions of Call of Duty, and drastically revamps them. It follows an interesting story that isn’t great and well isn’t well explained either. It certainly has it’s moments though, and enough action to keep you from think much about the story. On the down side of this game is the single player length which feels well short or what it should be. I understand that it’s hard to put together a First Person Shooter that has over 9 hours of game play and still be interesting, but god damn could they at least try. The single player ends up feeling more like episodic content from the half-life series then a full fledge game. Though intense and fun the single player fell short of what I was hoping for in a Call of Duty game. I’d have to give this game an 8 out of 10. It was an intense ride and fun to play, but it also has incredible short single player mode and poorly strung together story. I did not play the multiplayer section  as I am not much for playing multiplayer modes.

Porcelain left toe

My left toe has to hate me. every damn time I stub my left damn toe it starts to bleed. Which means I have an ingrown toe nail. That was fine when I had insurance but I currently do not have insurance. Which sucks because it’s going to cost me money which I’ve been trying to save up. Damn video games and consoles are expensive especially stupid collectors edition that look way to sweet to pass up. the only bright side is my parents said they would be willing to reimburse me.

Nothing to write, nothing to say.

I haven’t written a while, I did watch John Adams part 6 but didn’t feel like reviewing/summarizing it. I spent a lot of time working on my novel finishing chapter two. Two chapters in a year or rather a little under a year. To be fair I wasn’t writing for most of the year, and barely even thought about it during that time. So yea, working on chapter 3 in my head, I might write a review for part 6 and I will probably do one for 7. I’m just caught up with everything else right now.

John Adams Part 5: Unite or Die

Part 5 of John Adams starts off by showing Mr. Adams struggles during his two terms as Vice President. The episode continues to show the problems he faced in getting things done, with the limited power he was given. His exclusion from the inner circle of George Washington. His and George Washington attempts to stay out of the revolution in France, an eventual peace treaty with Britain leading to Washington decision to not run for a third term. Leading up to a heated race for the presidency. An interesting episode to say the least. Well acted, and very well paced it kept things interesting especially for anyone interested in political life in early U.S. History. Overall I’d have to give this episode a 9 out of 10

Flight of the Conchords

Good news Flight of the Conchords are doing a second season, I found out via their myspace profile. Bad news it won’t air on HBO until next January, which is long time to wait. So you’ll have a lot of time to watch the first season of Flight of the Conchords over and over again. Not that I mind I really like the show, plus I have to sit down and watch the DVD all the way. So look for a review of the first season coming soon, maybe.

Assassin’s Creed

I know this game just came out this last fall. But since I just got an elite 360 this February and gamefly just sent me the game this week. So I intend to talk about it now. It is a game that is polarized by the gaming community cause you either really really love it. Or you just out right despise it. And so far I somehow find myself right in the middle, I don’t hate it but there are things that need fixing namely combat and the health meter. It goes with saying so far that I don’t love it yet, either. The game play tends to get fairly derivative at times, but so far it really hasn’t bothered me that much at all.  So far the game hasn’t lost my interest which many games do upon even first playing them. So far i’d give it an 8 out 10, with the right to change my mind, should the game start sucking. But heres to hoping it’ll hold my interest until GTA4: collectors edition hits stores. I’m a sucker for useless junk, Though this is the first collectors edition video game I will own.

April Fools Day!

I’ve never been one for pulling off good April fools jokes, and it’s rare to see any jokes pulled off by websites. One of the few exceptions to this invisible rule would be the video game industry who usually get into it pretty good. IGN this year made a trailer for a Legend of Zelda movie. It looked pretty bad but for an April fools joke it’s pretty good if it gets you. The only site that really got me this year was Doofycrap.com. Now for something completely different. Internet Browsers and Wireless routers, I have four different browsers installed on my computer. I’d read in an article that apple’s Safari browser was pretty fast when compared to others. Oddly enough something like a day later apples little update thing for itunes was asking me if I wanted to download safari. So far though I haven’t really gotten a chance to try it out as my new wireless router doesn’t want to stay connected. My old one which I can’t go back to cause I accidentally killed it, would stay connected without so much of the trouble that this one is giving me. So i’ve stayed on Firefox for now, I still rate it a notch above Safari right now, with the Opera browser trailing behind in third whilst IE should be rated fifth on list of four. I really don’t like using IE, and won’t for the most part unless I have to.
