If you like artistic games, that have almost no story and are brawlers, well your in for a treat. MadWorld is a fun fast paced brawler that takes violence to a whole new level. It’s crazy insane and at times gruesome, but not in a bad way. It’s short, clocking in a finishing time around 5 hours, but for this type of game it feels right to have such a short play through. You play this type of game for too long it gets boring and repetitive, and you just get tired of it. It’s interesting enough without a story line, and if your looking to let off a little stress this game helps. It’s artistic style makes the game stand out from all other games, consisting mainly of three colors. Black, White and Red. It certainly creates an interesting look playing through. The game isn’t entirely original, but then again no brawler every is except for say the first one. The story what little there is to it, could use some fleshing out, and leaves the door wide open for a sequel should this game sell enough. The one major complaint I have of the game is a the camera, it can at some times flat out suck, to put it nicely. And while the game can get a little frustrating at times, in the end it seems worth the 50 dollars spent for a couple of hours of enjoyment. I feel there is plenty of room for improvement should a sequel be made, it’s a good solid fun game. I give it an 8 out of 10.

I didn’t go into Fable 2 with high expectations. It is what it is, and for the most part it’s a lot of fun and interesting. But it’s short and if you played the original Fable, you’ve pretty much played Fable 2 except that Fable 2 has guns. Which isn’t a bad thing, but makes the game feel a bit like a retread. It is solid action game with slight RPG elements put into it. The voice acting is well done, and it’s hard to fault it for doing what it does. At the same time I can’t praise the game for going over the same ground as the last game. The story is interesting but rather bland, though not cliche as the first. The game does have a good sense of humor though. The ending is very anticlimactic and just uninteresting. A good solid game that has a few things going for it and is probably better off as a rental rather then a buy. I’d give it a 7 out of 10.

I played and beat Far Cry 2 about a week ago and really haven’t been able to put my thoughts together on it. On one side of the occasion it’s an interesting but fairly derivative shooter. Bit on the other side I think that’s why I played through the whole game. It’s an interesting title, part of my problem with it is it’s title Far Cry 2, it is in no way related to the original Far Cry, and it would have made a lot more sense to just slap a different title on it. But I guess for the sake of sales and attempting to catch unsuspecting customers off guard it works. Like I said it’s a derivative most missions consist of go here shoot guards, pick up briefcase or kill one specific guy. The only break in following the story line consists of helping out other mercenaries in the game, taking assassination missions from the phone towers, or helping the local gun shop so that he’ll give you more weapons to buy. Now that sounds all good and fun, but the problem is, helping out any mercenaries revolves around going to an area killing guards and either killing some guy or finding a briefcase. The upside to doing the buddy/merc missions is that your safe house gets upgraded in some way. Which is fine and good but really not all that helpful when ammo is pretty easy to find. The assassinations missions require you to go shoot some guy and then mow down any guards that come after you that you didn’t mow down in the first place. The local gun shop missions really the only must do in the game if you want decent weapons, but after awhile even those missions unfortunately become derivative with go to location watch trucks go around in an odd circle figure out best hiding spot, blow up trucks. The story in Far Cry 2 is maybe the best thing it has going for it, and while interesting is kind of predictable by the end of it. A good game thats good but nothing more, i’d give it a 7 out of 10.

Persona 4 interesting and completely frustrating at the same time, I’m stuck on the Kanji dungeon, but other wise completely and utterly love the damn game. Ingrown toe nails are never fun and hurt like hell. Getting them fixed puts you through pain for the next two or so days as you stupidly stand on your foot and hope for the best because you have to work. Plus if you don’t have insurance cost can range from 75 dollars to about 130. The doctor I went to see was really nice about it, and hopefully in February he’ll fix it so that it’ll never come back. Work has managed to eat up a lot of my time, working at a casino isn’t easy especially in an economic crisis. You certainly see it all around, but you do your best to grin and bear it and hope things turn around. Oh and one last thought the Persona 4 soundtrack is pretty damn good while it might not get stuck in your head, it certainly has an interesting beat to it.

Well it’s GTA which in this case is a very good thing. It has been slowly eating my life away, when I can get a chance to get in some play time that is. It so far has an interesting story and some fairly strong gameplay to go with it. I’m not sure why so many websites are giving the game 10’s it is a very strong game, but not that great. Though I have yet to finish the game so maybe something amazing will happen in the last part of the game. But I would definitely recommend this game to anyone who just enjoys video games or a good story.

Lets get the video games and rants out of the way first. First Halo 3, my first though upon playing the game was it’s Halo. Which is great if you love Halo, but if you don’t your going to end up considering it an average sci-fi first person shooter. Secondly Gamestop order service claims that they shipped my copy of GTA4, woot. But they don’t have a tracking number which they say they don’t have because they outsourced the shipment to another company. Not sure if I believe them but if GTA4 shows up at my door tomorrow I will be ecstatic. My other worry about it not shipping is that my credit card hasn’t been charged, or gamestop also hasn’t sent out it’s usual your game shipped email. If you couldn’t tell I really want to play GTA4. Anyway on to the “The Laments” a novel about a family. I was going to write a review of it, but on second thought I don’t think I’ve digested it nearly enough. I will say that it is a very touching novel, that has its moments of silliness. I would recommend to anyone who likes to read a well written book every once and awhile.

One of the more interesting games to come out last year was Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It takes the age old mechanics from the WW2 versions of Call of Duty, and drastically revamps them. It follows an interesting story that isn’t great and well isn’t well explained either. It certainly has it’s moments though, and enough action to keep you from think much about the story. On the down side of this game is the single player length which feels well short or what it should be. I understand that it’s hard to put together a First Person Shooter that has over 9 hours of game play and still be interesting, but god damn could they at least try. The single player ends up feeling more like episodic content from the half-life series then a full fledge game. Though intense and fun the single player fell short of what I was hoping for in a Call of Duty game. I’d have to give this game an 8 out of 10. It was an intense ride and fun to play, but it also has incredible short single player mode and poorly strung together story. I did not play the multiplayer section as I am not much for playing multiplayer modes.

I know this game just came out this last fall. But since I just got an elite 360 this February and gamefly just sent me the game this week. So I intend to talk about it now. It is a game that is polarized by the gaming community cause you either really really love it. Or you just out right despise it. And so far I somehow find myself right in the middle, I don’t hate it but there are things that need fixing namely combat and the health meter. It goes with saying so far that I don’t love it yet, either. The game play tends to get fairly derivative at times, but so far it really hasn’t bothered me that much at all. So far the game hasn’t lost my interest which many games do upon even first playing them. So far i’d give it an 8 out 10, with the right to change my mind, should the game start sucking. But heres to hoping it’ll hold my interest until GTA4: collectors edition hits stores. I’m a sucker for useless junk, Though this is the first collectors edition video game I will own.
